Randy Couture - not ready to retire

Randy Couture says he has not been thinking of retirement any time soon, even though he is the oldest active fighter on the UFC roster. Having recently signed a new six-fight deal, he could find himself fighting all the way up to his 49th birthday.

"I'm not in the illusion that I'm going to fight forever, but I'm having a blast. I'm still getting better as an athlete and a fighter and will take one fight at a time,” he told The Sun. "But it's not really about achievement anymore, or accolades or any of that. It's more about doing what I have a passion for and doing what I love.

"I love to train and I love the competition, and I love to do it. Achievements and winning titles and all the other stuff is the icing on the cake."

Good, I Love Randy Couture And His Fights Always Pump Me Up, But If He Loses To Brandon Vera I Have No Idea Where He Would Go From There.

He goes to be an official UFC Gatekeeper. Ouch.

But like you, I have no clue what he does inside the cage if Vera owns him.

Shoot, Randy's last fight with Nog was one of the best fights of the year. I thought it was an all time classic! Even if he loses, I don't care if he stays around. He is still giving tough fighters some great fights even if he loses. He certainly isn't going in there and embarrassing himself by any means.

If you compare him to a guy like Forrest Griffin, well Griffin has been KO'd and TKO'd in his last two fights against two great fighters, but he got beaten pretty badly. At least Couture is giving some pretty damn good fights even though he is still losing them. He's not going in there and getting embarrassed. I think that he beats Vera. Match up wise I think he brings a lot of problems to Vera.

    Anyone agree? Disagree?

You have a good point Red, just not sure if Randy's around to put on good fights. If he can't beat Vera, he's a long way from being close to a title fight IMO. While I think there are some really good fight for him at LHW, they are mostly gatekeeper fights.

Well I don't really look at him as a title contender at this point really. He would have been a great match up for Machida like 5 years ago with his dirty style, but not now really so there goes that. He is a gate keeper basically. There is nothing wrong with that though, especially at his age. If he could beat Vera and then Rashad Evans possibly well okay. I don't think he could beat Evans though.
