UFC 150: Henderson vs. Edgar II Predictions from the staff at MMA Crypt.
Benson Henderson (15-2-0) vs. Frankie Edgar(14-2-1)
Kickass32 :Well, a fight that never should be happening, the first fight wasn't controversial and Benson won 4 rounds to 1 so it wasn't even that close.....but Edgar whined, and Edgar got his own way....shocker.
Benson's size and power advantage, along with his speed being very comparable to Edgar's should be enough to win him this fight. Henderson will have to avoid the takedowns in this fight, although he stuffed 7 takedown attempts in the first fight, he was taken down on 5 different occassions....that number will need to decrease.
Edgar can only fight 1 way, so his gameplane shouldn't change much in matchup number 2, whereas Benson can do many things differently.
I see Benson wearing down Edgar, and again coming out with a decisive victory.
Benson Henderson, via Unanimous Decision
CooperJacob : I can't see this fight going any other way than the first: a tight decision with both fighters showcasing their skills. Anyone that counts Edgar out of this one is a fool, but Benson is a tough dude to beat. I can't see either fighter getting finished here, but I think Edgar will do what most don't expect him to and get the nod in another close title fight.
Edgar via unanimous decision
BluenoseGreig :
Well this fight should follow a similar pattern to the first fight between the pair, Henderson will look to use his leg kicks to keep Edgar from getting inside the pocket and use his boxing effectively. Edgar will try to use his excellent head movement and footwork to minimise damage. I see Henderson looking to use his wrestling to try and gain the advantage over Edgar by getting him to the ground and using his size advantage also. Edgar will look to be quick and get in and out picking Henderson off with smart boxing. This should be a really fast paced fight with plenty of action from beginning to end with Benson edging a point’s win once again.
Ben Henderson by decision
Donald Cerrone (18-4-0) vs.Melvin Guillard (47-11-3)
Kickass32: If this fight lasts long enough, it will be FOTN....I'm not sure it will though. Guillard has the power and speed advantage, but in every other aspect Cerrone is superior, especially in the intelligence department, and that is where Cerrone wins this fight and Guillard will lose it. Melvin will eventually try something stupid, get hit or taken down where Cerrone will lock in a RNC for the victory.
Donald Cerrone via 2nd rd. SUB
CooperJacob : This is an awesome fight between two dudes who are scared of no one. Guillard's speed is undeniably great, but Cerrone will look to slow him down with his never-ending leg kicks. Melvin's weakness is evidently the ground game, whereas Cerrone does not have any deliberate and exploitative weaknesses. I believe this will be Fight of the Night and end in the Cowboy getting a brutal KO in the second.
Cerrone via 2nd round (T)KO
BluenoseGreig :
Cerrone and Guillard should put on an exciting fight here too, Cerrone with great Maui Thai and Guillard with his heavy handed boxing. Whilst Guillard could finish the fight at any time with one big punch, I see Cerrone dictating how the fight goes. Donald will keep Guillard at distance and if Melvin gets inside, I see the fight going to the ground where Cerrone has a big advantage. Now this fight could end with Cerrone subbing Guillard due to both Cerrone having many finishes by sub and Melvin mostly loses to sub but I think it ends with Cerrone winning the decision.
Donald Cerrone by decision
Jake Shields (27-6-1) vs. Ed Herman(20-7-0)
Kickass32 : Jake Shields is a one dimensional fighter, he is very good at that one dimension, however he is very average at best with the other aspects. Ed Herman has developed into a pretty good all-round fighter. He has got some pretty good, heavy hands and very good TDD.....and that might be the difference....Jake Shields NEEDS this fight to go to the ground to win, problem is, he is horrible in the takedown department....his chin is questionable...add it all up, and I'm calling for the upset.
Ed Herman via 2nd rd. KO
CooperJacob : Shields hasn't looked great at WW, but at MW he should be far more comfortable. The weight cut looked like it had a big effect on him, so he should make weight without much struggle this time around. Although Herman isn't a mediocre fighter, I can't say a way past Shields getting back on track with a solid win. Short Fuse has looked pretty good as of late, with 3 wins in a row, but these wins are hardly against the cream of the crop. A win would be huge for Herman, but for Shields this is merely a fight in which he can show that he has finally arrived in the UFC. I believe Jake Shields is too much for Herman, and he should win with relative ease.
Shields via unanimous decision
BluenoseGreig :
Jake Shields will control the pace and place of this fight. Ed Herman has a chance in this fight for sure, I just don’t think he will win. This fight will go to ground early and will be contested mostly there. Herman clearly has the ability to finish with a submission but not on Jake Shields, Jake will control the fight and grind out the win.
Jake Shields by decision
Yushin Okami (27-7-0) vs. Buddy Roberts (12-2-0)
Kickass32 : Yushin Okami is the far superior fighter in every aspect. Roberts is a gamer, but is outclassed here. Okami wins this fight however, and whenever he wants.
Yushin Okami via Unanimous Decision
CooperJacob : Fine, this bout has been made due to a string of injuries, but this makes no sense to me. In fact, I would rather that this card had one less fight than this bout. A dude challenging for top-10 status against an unknown fighter who is prelim fight of an FX card worthy. The Japanese sensation should make short work of Roberts here with no real threat otherwise. Okami looked awesome in the first two rounds of his fight against Boetsch, and has somehow become overlooked in the MW division.
Okami via 1st round (T)KO
BluenoseGreig :
Buddy Roberts comes into this fight as a replacement for Rousimar Palhares, and I think he may be outclassed by the veteran, Okami. I see Okami out striking Roberts and if not finishing him there, taking him to the ground and ending the fight by submission in the second round.
Yushin Okami via 2nd round submission
Justin Lawrence (4-0-0) vs. Max Holloway (5-1-0)
Kickass32 : Two young bucks, with little experience going at it. Lawrence looked decent in his last fight, but was wobbled a couple times, and he doesn't really posses a ground game to speak of. Holloway has heavy hands and loves to throw down. I'm thinking Justin's chin is questionable, and that will spell disaster for him.
Max Holloway via 3rd rd. KO
CooperJacob : I really, really like this fight. It has fireworks written all over it! Lawrence looked sloppy before his brutal head kick KO of John Cofer, but he could look better now he is training with the likes ofAnderson Silva at Team Black House. Meanwhile, Holloway looked awesome against Pat Schilling en route to his unanimous decision victory and the youngest fighter in the UFC will hopefully show further improvements. His only loss comes against ex-contender Dustin Poirier in a fight which featured one of the most brutal submissions I've ever seen, and was on short notice. I think Holloway has the edge in this one, and this will be a great 3-round stand up war.
Holloway via unanimous decision
BluenoseGreig :
This one is the toughest to call, both guys with very little to judge them by. However, I am going to go with Lawrence here, I think he may have the striking advantage and will be able to get the edge and win by second round KO.
Justin Lawrence via secound round KO
