Last week, B.J. Penn released a video blog stating that he'd like to train at his old gym American Kickboxing Academy for his upcoming bout with Rory MacDonald (whenever it actually happens), but former opponent and AKA stalwart Jon Fitch wasn't down for that. Javier Mendez confirmed that was the case on the weekend, but Fitch hadn't said anything about it. Until now.
On a conference call for the new reality series "Fight Factory" that will air on Nuvo TV, Fitch finally addressed the issue with a stinging jab in Penn's direction (via MMA Fighting):"Here at AKA, we've got fighters who come out to fight, fighters who will face anyone and don't hide from any opponents. You've also got cowards out there like B.J. Penn who say they want to fight people, but then they run and hide."
When asked to clarify if he was actually calling Penn a coward and whether he'd ever be okay with B.J. at AKA, Fitch repeated his stance:"Yes. He's a coward. He wouldn't be welcomed here."
Fitch is preparing for a UFC 153 bout with Erick Silva, but there's definitely some unresolved issues between the Hawaiian legend and the AKA grinder. Will they meet in a rematch of their UFC 127 draw one day? Who knows. I'm liking the trash talk between the two though.
