Jon Fitch Says B.J. Penn Is a 'Coward' That Isn't Welcome At AKA

by Tim Burke on Aug 7, 2012 8:00 PM EDT in UFC Quotes

Last week, B.J. Penn released a video blog stating that he'd like to train at his old gym American Kickboxing Academy for his upcoming bout with Rory MacDonald (whenever it actually happens), but former opponent and AKA stalwart Jon Fitch wasn't down for that. Javier Mendez confirmed that was the case on the weekend, but Fitch hadn't said anything about it. Until now.

On a conference call for the new reality series "Fight Factory" that will air on Nuvo TV, Fitch finally addressed the issue with a stinging jab in Penn's direction (via MMA Fighting):
"Here at AKA, we've got fighters who come out to fight, fighters who will face anyone and don't hide from any opponents. You've also got cowards out there like B.J. Penn who say they want to fight people, but then they run and hide."
When asked to clarify if he was actually calling Penn a coward and whether he'd ever be okay with B.J. at AKA, Fitch repeated his stance:
"Yes. He's a coward. He wouldn't be welcomed here."
Fitch is preparing for a UFC 153 bout with Erick Silva, but there's definitely some unresolved issues between the Hawaiian legend and the AKA grinder. Will they meet in a rematch of their UFC 127 draw one day? Who knows. I'm liking the trash talk between the two though.

I don't blame BJ for not wanting a rematch with Fitch. His reason was valid- the first fight was boring and he didn't want another boring fight against a boring fighter. Who wants to be associated with such boring fights? Fitch needs to shut up and go dry hump something to put him in a better mood.

I know, I don't know anyone interested in seeing that fight again!

To call BJ a coward is pretty damned stupid too, BJ has fought anyone and everyone at multiple weightclasses too, he is quite clearly no coward!

This talk probably has more to do with Fitch taking a page from the Chael Sonnen School of Shit-Taking.
Even when I'm 100% certain of a fight outcome, I'm only 75% sure... and of that, there's only a 50/50 shot that I'm right.

Definitely, but when you shit-talk, at least make it beleivable!!! I don't see any amount of talk convincing BJ that a fight with Fitch is what he needs to do either!

Who's really the coward? They guy that has fought in damn every weight class or the guy that won't let him come to his gym cause he might learn or see something that could be used to beat him.

The 1st was stupid, a rematch is only stupidididier.

I didn't mind the first fight too much. It definetly wasn't a fight to remember, but I didn't mind it. The only reason I would want to see it again, truthfully, is so Fitch could clear up that blemish on his record that shouldn't be there. Fitch won that fight, very clearly. And they gave him a draw because of it. Everyone including BJ knew he won that fight, so from that sense I don't want to see the fight again, cause it would look like the first one. But, if a guy has a bullcrap blemish on his record and wants to fix it, I have no problems with that for the most part. I mean, I wouldn't want to see Jon Jones vs Matt Hammill again, but if before he fought Bader he was to say, 'Hey I want to fix this" I would understand that.

Try finishing a fight Fitch....you're the coward, you fight scared to lose, you are boring and have not been missed in your absence.

A point well put, he is one of those guys who fight not to lose, the worst kind of fighters, like you say....cowards.

I would agree he fights not to lose. But, at least he has ALWAYS fought like that. It isn't like he used to be an exciting fighter, who used to finish fights, and put on exciting fights, then became one of these fighters who fights scared to lose. You know, like a certain champion of Fitch's division. JUST SAYING....
