Ulysses Gomez slotted to face John Moraga at UFC on FOX 4
Flyweight Ulysses Gomez this past week told MMAjunkie.com Radio that he wasn't yet booked for his UFC debut but would be ready if duty called.
And with the injury withdrawal of Ian McCall, opportunity has knocked.
Gomez (9-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has been slotted to face fellow newcomer John Moraga (10-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) at UFC on FOX 4, which takes place Aug. 4 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Gomez vs. Moraga serves on the Facebook-streamed preliminary-card, which precedes prelims on FUEL TV and main-card fights on FOX.
MMADiehards.com first reported the addition, and MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) confirmed it with a source close to the event.
Gomez was a staple of regional standout Tachi Palace Fights, where he won the promotion's first-ever flyweight title. He was unsuccessful in defending the belt, but this past December bulked up to bantamweight, where he won the promotion's bantamweight belt.
Gomez trains out of Cobra Kai in Las Vegas. In his recent radio appearance, he shot down rumors of a fight with fellow flyweight Jussier da Silva at UFC 153.
Moraga makes his debut on the strength of a four-fight win streak. The Arizona-based fighter recently won the Rage in the Cage bantamweight title and drops to 125 pounds for his octagon debut. He trains out of Arizona Combat Sports and MMA Lab.
