Despite a loss in his most recent bout, Josh Neer apparently won't be leaving the UFC anytime soon.
The 29-year-old welterweight has signed a new four-fight deal with the organization, his manager, Mickey Dubberly of KO Dynasty, told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).
Neer (33-11-1 MMA, 6-7 UFC), who has one of the highest finishing rates in the sport, first debuted with the UFC seven years ago and is in his fourth stint with the organization.
Most recently, Neer suffered a knockout loss to Mike Pyle at UFC on FX 3. Prior to the setback, "The Dentist" was riding a six-fight win streak that included six stoppages. Two of the victories came in the UFC over Keith Wisniewski (TKO due to a doctor's stoppage) and Duane "Bang" Ludwig (technical submission).
Neer went 0-1 in his first UFC stint, 2-2 in his second, 2-3 in his third, and he's 2-1 in his current one. Outside the UFC, he owns a 27-4-1 record.
Long before he debuted with the UFC, Neer took fights wherever he could get them. It produced some memorable moments for the big-show vet.
"One of my first professional fights was in a barn in Minnesota," Neer told MMAjunkie.com earlier this year. "And I fought a heavyweight. I weighed 170, and the other guy weighed like 240. But he wasn't very good."
Neer picked up a first-round TKO victory in that fight. It was one of 29 stoppages in his 33 career wins.
