I think when champions are out for that long they need to vacate the belt and the number 1 and 2 contenders should fight for that vacant title.

Once the champion is back to full health and able to fight they should fight that number 1 contender and if they win that, then fight for the title. An interm title won't work if you're just going to let that "champ" sit around for months on end and not defend it. I also think that a champ should defend their title 3 to 4 times a year. But those are just my thoughts and any input is welcome on the idea.
I agree with you there 100%. Titles should never be left in limbo, if they will be as much as 10 months then yes I'd agree, they should vacate the belt.

Also agree a title should be defended a minimum 2 times a years, but 3 should be the goal.
If only Dana and Lorenzo could read hese posts, it seems they are the only ones who don't mind the titles sitting in limbo.

There is absolutley no reason a title can't be defended a minimum 2 times a year....and like I said 3 should be the target.

If there is an injury, generally you'll know within a week of aproximatley how long the fighter will be out. If the diagnosis for a champions injury is more than 6 months, set up an interim title fight ASAP, and have that defended every 3-4 months as needed until the "Real" Champion is ready.

    Exactly... good points man.
Even when I'm 100% certain of a fight outcome, I'm only 75% sure... and of that, there's only a 50/50 shot that I'm right.

And if the constant threat of losing the title if a champ gets injured should serve as a deterrent for them training at 100% all the time and beating the hell out of each other. Hopefully it will give some incentive for them to be just a bit more careful. I know some people say that them missing a pay day is punishment enough. Well evidently not seeing as how champs and number 1 contenders are still racking up the injuries. I think losing the title means more to some of them than losing some $$$.

You could be right, with the title will come many more sponsorships and endorsements!
