A light-heavyweight bout between Swedish muay Thai specialist Jorgen Kruth (5-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and the heavy-handed Fabio Maldonado (18-5 MMA, 1-2 UFC) is the latest addition to UFC on FUEL TV 5.
UFC officials today announced the fall fight.
UFC on FUEL TV 5 takes place Sept. 29 at Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, England.
The main card airs live on FUEL TV (Saturday afternoon in the U.S.) following prelims on Facebook. Kruth vs. Maldonado likely will be part of the preliminary card.
Kruth signed with the UFC earlier this year to compete at UFC on FUEL TV 2 in Stockholm, but he ultimately scratched due to an injury. The promotional newcomer is fairly new to MMA but experienced in pro kickboxing, where he owns a 71-14 career record. All five of his MMA wins have come via stoppage, all in the first round (three in 50 seconds or fewer). Most recently, he scored a TKO victory over Japanese vet Yusuke Kawaguchi (13-4 at the time) at a regional show in Sweden.
Maldonado, a Brazilian fighter, finds himself in a must-win situation. The fighter knocked out James McSweeney in his promotional debut for his 11th straight win (and 12th knockout in 18 career victories). However, he's since suffered back-to-back decision losses to Kyle Kingsbury and Igor Pokrajac.
The latest UFC on FUEL TV 5 card now includes:
- Stipe Miocic vs. Stefan Struve
- Yves Jabouin vs. Brad Pickett
- Dan Hardy vs. Amir Sadollah
- Duane "Bang" Ludwig vs. Che Mills
- Akira Corassani vs. Andy Ogle
- Paul Sass vs. Matt Wiman
- Jorgen Kruth vs. Fabio Maldonado
- Robert Peralta vs. Jason Young
