UFC on FX 4 winner Brian Ebersole contemplating possible drop to lightweight

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Brian Ebersole on Friday moved his UFC record to 4-0 as a welterweight – and picked up a milestone 50th victory as a pro.

So it was slightly odd for him to admit he's thinking about changing weight classes, just a couple hours after his latest win.

Ebersole (50-14-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) survived a rough start against T.J. Waldburger to rebound and win a unanimous decision on the main card of UFC on FX 4.

UFC on FX 4 took place at Revel Atlantic City in New Jersey. The event's main card aired on FX, and the prelims aired on FUEL TV and streamed on Facebook.

"I'm sick of being a giant killer," Ebersole said at Friday's post-fight news conference, which was attended by MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).
"If that starts to happen, I'm going to make a very concerted effort to become a lightweight."

Ebersole was dropped by Waldburger in the first round, then had to survive his opponent's choke attempt to survive the frame. But in the second and third rounds, Ebersole was in control and never in danger.

Ebersole also may be thinking about his career long-term when considering a drop from welterweight to 155.

"Fighting this long, I feel pretty lucky to have the health to keep playing the game that I enjoy," Ebersole said.

Ebersole, who lives in Australia, had more than 60 fights when he finally signed with the UFC last year. And he didn't disappoint, upsetting Chris Lytle at UFC 127. Only 16 months later, Ebersole finds himself at 4-0 in the UFC, including a pair of wins over Dennis Hallman and Claude Patrick. He now has an 11-fight win streak overall.

He is out of his mind. He looks like a freaking MW. Guys shouldn't be able to drop down that far any way. It defeats the purpose of having weight classes. The whole purpose is so that guys the same size or very close to it can fight without the unfair size and strength advantages.

He's doing good at WW. Why would you move down if you are winning where you are?

That was my thoughts too, usually fighters only contemplate dropping weight class when they are losing.

Never fear, inevitably we shall have our years of failure, and when they arrive, we must reveal tolerance and sanity. No matter the days of anxiety that come our way, we shall emerge stronger because of the trials to be overcome. That has been the philosophy of the Rangers since the days of the gallant pioneers.

Probably because he knows that he won't even be a top 10 fighter at WW. It's possible, but most top 10 guys at WW would beat him.
