Don't get me wrong, I HATE the type of fighting Guida did last night but it's hard to argue if he landed more punches and did more damage.
When a guy runs as much and as fast as Guida did....it's damn near impossible to cut of the cage.

Again, I haven't seen the stats, but if Guida was landing punches while "running" then that's a lot different. Starnes simply ran and threw no punches and wanted no part of fighting. At least Guida was throwing punches and connecting at times. I thought the fight was boring too and think Greg Jackson needs to let his fighters fight instead of gameplans that piss of thousands of fans, but I also thought Guida did do damage to maynard, had him frustrated, and obviously dictated how the fight went.

I'm not even denying that guida didn't land or might have outpointed him by the stat box. But "dictated" how the fight went...hahaha of course.....I guess Maynard should have turned and ran the other way that would have ben classic, but you get points for aggresion and Maynard clearly won points for that by steadily tracking him down. but my point is that Dana even said when he ripped Guida that's it's illegal to fight like that, that's not backpeddling like Condit was doing against diaz he was actually running in throwing punches and then running out. Dana said he should have been by the second round but at least he got a warning at the 4th....but that did't really change anything.

I think Greg Jackson likes to have total control over his fighters making them mindless zombies. he beats gameplans into their heads and basically takes control of the fight himself. Just like GSP in between rounds in his last fight.....he kept sayin "what are ya goin to do?" GSP said jab jab jab.... and he kept repeating that over and over and that's a big reason GSP fights the way he does now.

There isn't anything wrong with game planning, but when the game plan is to run a marathon inside the cage while throwing a few punches, well that simply is retarded.

Yea, he was too fast, the prob with chasing a guy in full stride is that your off balance when punching and that's what happened to gray a couple times he chased him threw a punch and then crashed into the cage because of his momentum.

I agree with what both of you are saying. I guess after thinking about it, my problem with the decision is that Gray did nothing to earn the win. People knock Rampage for his style of fighting these days, that's how Maynard fought. He plodded forward looking for the KO punch and rarely connected. Again, I'm not defending the way Guida fought because it was boring as hell, but people shouldn't be defending the way Maynard fought, either imo. He did almost nothing and got the win. Jax- I like your summary of Jackson, it's spot on.

I actually had Guida winning that fight, but I am extremely happy I was wrong.
