Justin Lawrence vs. Max Holloway booked for UFC 150 in Denver

A featherweight bout has been added to the UFC's return to the Mile High City.

"The Ultimate Fighter Live" standout Justin Lawrence (4-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) will drop down a weight class to meet Max Holloway (5-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) on the card. Both fighters are coming off wins earlier this month at the The Ultimate Fighter Live Finale.

UFC officials on Monday announced the fight for UFC 150. Its placement on the card is not yet known. UFC 150's main card airs on pay-per-view, while FX and Facebook are expected to carry the preliminary card.

UFC 150 takes place Aug. 11 at Pepsi Center in Denver and features a main event lightweight title fight between champion Ben Henderson (16-2 MMA, 4-0 UFC) and former champ Frankie Edgar (14-2-1 MMA, 9-2-1 UFC). The fight is a rematch from their title bout at UFC 144 this past February, which Henderson won by close unanimous decision.

After winning his way into the "TUF" house as a lightweight with a TKO of WEC vet James Krause, Lawrence was the top overall pick by coach Dominick Cruz. He picked up a knockout win over Cristiano Marcello. But in the quarterfinals, he ran into Mike Chiesa's Cinderella story and lost by TKO in a sudden-victory third round and was bounced from the tournament. He still got a spot on the live finale card in Las Vegas, though, and picked up a pair of $40,000 bonuses for "Fight of the Night" and "Knockout of the Night" for his third-round head-kick KO of John Cofer.

Holloway, a Hawaiian, started his career 4-0 before stepping in on about a month's notice to make his UFC debut against Dustin Poirier at UFC 143. He was submitted in the first round with a mounted triangle-armbar. But he rebounded for his first win in the company a little more than two weeks ago, outpointing Pat Schilling with a unanimous decision sweep of the judges' scorecards.

I must admit I did think exactly the same thing, it's unusual for the UFC to match up 2 prospects so early on.

Another reason not to match him up with another prospect, if Holloway was to lose that would be 2 losses from 3, usually the UFC do more to ease these guys in!!
