This week's UFC 147 event in Brazil features two Facebook-streamed prelim bouts with featherweights Marcos Vinicius "Vina" Borges Pancini (19-3-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) vs. Wagner "Galeto" Campos (11-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and featherweights Felipe Arantes (14-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) vs. Milton Vieira (13-7-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC).
UFC officials today announced the bouts, which feature two cast members from "The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil" and a previously announced bout in Arantes vs. Vieira.
Featuring a rematch between Wanderlei Silva and
Rich Franklin, UFC 147 takes place Saturday at Estádio Jornalista Felipe Drummond in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The main card airs on pay-per-view.
Pancini was a "TUF: Brazil" semifinalist and earned his way into the house with a first-round TKO victory over Pedro Nobre. He then was Wanderlei Silva's fifth of eight picks for the 145-pound tournament. Hugo "Wolverine" Viana then defeated Pancini in the quarterfinals but earned a second shot into the bracket when Rodrigo Damm was forced to withdraw due to medical concerns.
However, Pancini was not able to capitalize on the opportunity and lost to Godofredo "Pepey" Castro in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, Campos earned a decision win in the elimination round of "TUF: Brazil" and was selected as Silva's seventh pick. He then promptly was promptly from the tournament, also by Pepey, with a quarterfinal-round decision loss.
Vieira, who is widely credited for inventing the anaconda choke, comes into the octagon with a three-fight win streak, though he has not faced top-tier opposition for quite some time. Earlier in his career, Vieira didn't fare well against top-tier welterweights Jake Shields and Hayato Sakurai. Now 33 years old, his octagon debut will provide strong clues of his future as a featherweight.
The 24-year-old Arantes is in good spirits after getting back in the win column in his most recent UFC appearance. The Macaco Gold Team fighter outpointed Antonio Carvalho at UFC 142, five months after he came up on the losing end of a decision against Yuri Alcantara at UFC 134.
