Gray Maynard's Camp Files Commission Complaint About Clay Guida's Hair

It appears that Clay Guida's hair has become the focus of some pre-fight posturing in the lead-up to his main event bout with Gray Maynard at UFC on FX 4 next Friday. Guida's hair is his trademark, but Maynard's camp apparently filed a complaint to the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board and Guida has elected to braid back his hair for the fight.
MMA Junkie picked up comments from Guida's manager John Fosco, and NJSACB chief Nick Lembo:
"Clay chose to avoid any distractions and simply complied," Fosco told MMA Junkie. "Clay will be braiding his hair back. Clay is not focused on this and has one objective: winning. Nothing will distract him from his goal."
"He doesn't want to do it, and I don't believe he's 100 percent happy about it, but he's being very understanding and very cooperative about it and he agreed to it," Lembo told MMA Junkie. "Otherwise, if he said, 'No, I'm not going to do that,' we'd have to have a hearing on it and let both sides present their case and have a commissioner's ruling on the issue."The complaint is based on a statement in the unified rules of MMA, and allows the commission to rule on "whether head or facial hair presents any hazard to the safety of the unarmed combatant or his opponent or will interfere with the supervision and conduct of the contest or exhibition." As stated above, Guida chose to just comply instead of going in front of the commission. The complaint was filed approximately a month ago, before the commission even considered anything to do with Guida's hair.
The weirdest part of the whole thing is that Gray Maynard himself apparently knew nothing about it:
Maynard, who contacted MMA Junkie following the publication of this report, said he was not aware of his camp's request. This is definitely a strange situation.
"I never filed a complaint," Maynard said. "This was the first I've ever heard about it."
