back on the horse finally, well mostly

well i seem to finally be back on the working out and eating better again. still doing the p90x since i can do it in the morning at my house. started and stopped a few times once my shoulder healed up after separating it downhill mountain biking in whistler back in early september. but for the last three weeks i have been doing better. not perfect my any means but at least a little more consistent. as always i struggle with the eating part, which for myself is much or critical than working out. but one leads to the other. so i will update as i go. hopefully i can keep it up.

Good to hear buddy, I've made it to Silat every day this month, not too shabby for me. Starting to get into it again. Also hitting P90X when I can, not perfect but getting better on that part.

thanks. glad you are making it to silat. that i am jealous of. like i said, the one thing i miss from the springs. i am also not perfect with the p90x but doing the best i can manage. i'll tell you what, no matter how many times i do it, it still sucks getting up by 5:30 in the am to work out! but realistically that is my only option. did the plyos this morning. always i good one...

another thing to add is the weight loss is still my primary goal with maintaining muscle mass a close second. this time i am starting in the low 190 lbs. my weight has been ranging between 194-190.5 (191 this morning) depending on the day. when i started back in august my high was 203 so i am starting about 10 lbs less than i was which is nice. the goal is 180 so i have another 10+ lbs to go. we'll see how long it take. i know it is just consistency.

That's good to hear buddy. I set up a goal for myself of 1 pound or bodyfat % per week for this year. So, a total of 52 pounds/bodyfat %. What I do is just take my weight and add my bodyfat % to it and use that as my totals.

you were telling me about that. that is a good goal. better than just weight.

so my eating took a crap this week. my schedule got screwed up a couple of days and forgot my lunch. work outs went well for the first three days missed this morning, and have a buddy coming in from seattle to go skiing tonight. so we are headed to girdwood in a couple of hours. gee i'm sure we won't have any beer tonight... well i'll try to limit the damage as much as possible and reset on monday. one day at a time.

so the second half of last week was less than stellar but i reset yesterday. eating was decent but not perfect. i did work out this morning, overslept yesterday. i am starting week four on p90x so it is a recovery week. i haven't done some of this weeks workouts which is nice to have something a little different. so my wife bought a new scale, one that does bmi, body fat and some sort of water % number. not sure what the usefulness of the last one is. the good news is it says i am 2-3 lbs lighter than on the old scale! so now i can go eat a pizza! too bad the numbers don't have any actual relevance. the bad news is the bmi and body fat number were both 27. so the scale says i'm fat... if i had to guess from having actual body fat test done before, that 27% is kinda high. according to the scale if i wanted to be at 10% body fat i have to loose another 32 lbs. that would put me at 158. i haven't weighed 158 since the 6th or 7th grade. then again for my height that is around what bmi says is a health weight. i think i would be in the hospital if i weighed 158. no big deal what the number says, i'll use it as a relative number and see where it goes. enjoy.

to be honest, i feel like the whole BMI stuff is bogus and a load of crap. people are different. ive known plenty of people to be "obese" by the BMI scale but are in just as good of shape as i am, which is still not prefect lol.

no i agree. guess that was the point i was trying to make. bmi doesn't mean shit. i would not be healthy if i got down to a "healthy" bmi numbe.

yeah, the BMI is a fucking joke IMO. If you plan on being as strong as Michael Jackson, then yeah, it's a valid number or if you want to compete with Lance on the tour. But if you plan of carrying any type of muscle, there are very few thing more stupid than the BMI IMO.

so my eating has been pretty decent this week but my workouts have sucked. one day a week isn't going to cut it. i was automatically waking up between 5-5:15 every morning but not this week. going to have to set an alarm again.
