Amilcar Alves VS.Mike Pierce
Round 1 - Referee Josh Rosenthal in the cage for the evening's first fight. Pierce takes the center early as Alves circles left. Pierce rushes in with a shot and grabs a high single. Alves balances well against the fence and drops to a knee when Pierce tries for a double. Pierce pushing in with a few knees and footstomps before finally elevating and slamming Alves down. Alves calm underneath, and he secures guard. Alves holds the action tight as he scoots up against the cage. Pierce does create some separation and lands once nice heavy shot. Pierce advances to half-mount, and we're halfway in. Alves works to one knee and stands. Pierce stays glued to him and elevates from a high-crotch with another crowd-pleasing slam. Alves grabs guard again, but he's stuck. Alves works to his knees, but Pierce is relentless in his gameplan. Pierce throws a few short punches to the ribs and leg. Alves stands again, but Pierce is attached to him with a bodylock. More footstomps from Pierce. The smothering strategy draws a few boos in the closing seconds, but it wins Pierce the round on the MMAjunkie.com card, 10-9.
Round 2 - Alves bouncing early. He looks to strike, but before he can, Pierce is in again with a single. Alves tries to slip away, but he finds himself on the ground and back in guard. Pierce slides out to the side and lands a forearm as he pushes down. He grabs a front headlock, and as Alves tries to roll free, he secures half-mount. Pierce works in an elbow or two from the top, but he's far more concerned with maintaining the position than unleashing any strikes. Alves with his back to the cage, and he works to his butt. Alves with his back against the cage, and he pushes Pierce away briefly, but he can't work back to his feet. Alves working from a seated position, and Pierce will not allow a moment to breathe. One minute left. Boos come in again. Pierce stands up, but only momentarily. Little in the way of striking in this fight, but Pierce takes another round on the MMAjunkie.com card, 10-9.
Round 3 - Chants of "We want Shaq" between rounds. Pierce smothering Alves so far, but crowd wants action. Alves still light on his feet. He fires a high kick that's blocked. A few low kicks land. Leaping knee misses as Alves was trying too hard to land from a distance. Pierce capitalizes on the opportunity and works to the floor. Pierce into half-mount, and he tries to attack the arm. Crowd more interested in Clay Guida's entrance to the arena, and they start chanting his name. Alves escapes the straight armbar attempt and works back to guard. Pierce passes to half-mount again and tries to break the left arm of his opponent. Alves rolls calmly out of the hold, though Pierce maintains wrist control from half-mount. Pierce tries for the kimura one more time, but he switches back to the straight armbar again. NICK OSIPCZAK VS. GREG SOTO
Round 1 - Referee Yves Lavigne steps into the cage for the evening's second preliminary bout. Soto pushes forward early with jabs. Osipczak lands a low kick that spins opponent around. Osipczak with a jab, then a straight. Soto catches a kick and holds it until he can shove Osipczak to the floor. Osipczak pulls guard and works his legs actively. He threatens with a triangle choke and lands a few elbows. Soto stands and dives in with a big punch that scores. Osipczak in guard, and he lands a few short elbows underneath. Two minutes in. Soto stands and just misses a big punch as he pushes back in. Osipczak uses the moment to scramble up and back to his feet. Osipczak pushes Soto up against the cage. Knees traded inside. Osipczak just misses a leaping knee. Downward elbows by both fighters. Soto bleeding from the corner of his left eye. Soto pushes in to avoid the rangy strikes of Osipczak. Osipczak keeps him at bay and remains upright. Nice overhand right scores for Osipczak. Soto again clinches. Soto lands a nice right in the closing seconds, but with the damage and slightly more effective striking on the feet, Osipczak takes the round, 10-9, on the MMAjunkie.com card. Soto had a takedown, but he did little from the top.
Round 2 - Doctor takes a long look at Soto's cut between rounds. It appears fine, but the physician hesitates before allowing the fight to continue. Osipczak with an early jab. Soto shoots in, but to no avail. Osipczak grabs a headlock and scores a nice right hand. He pushes in to his kneeling opponent, but Soto scrambles around to the back and locks in a rear-naked choke attempt. It's on the chin, and Osipczak calmly spins to his back. The inevitable "U-S-A" chants erupt. Osipczak tries for a triangle choke but it slips off. Soto in half-mount, and he nearly gets all the way to mount, but Osipczak pushes him back. Nice action, and the crowd responded well to the transitions. Soto with a few sweeping punches from the top. Osipczak less active from his back than he was in the first. Osipczak does land a few elbows from underneath, but Soto responds with punches to the head and body. Soto tries to pass, but Osipczak defends, though the Brit gets tagged by a few elbows during the series. One minute left. Osipczak tries to scramble up. Soto alertly jumps the back, but he again can't capitalize. On the feet, and Soto looks the more fatigued man, and the eye is bleeding. Final series of strikes from both to end the frame. MMAjunkie.com sees it for Soto, 10-9.
Round 3 - Soto's cut is right above the eye, but it's not bleeding too bad, and round three will commence. Osipczak lands an early jab, but Soto powers into a takedown that drives Osipczak across the cage and onto his back. Soto stands from guard and nearly eats an upkick, but he counters with a diving punch and lands in side control. Soto hooks Osipczak's legs and blasts a few knees into the ribcage. Osipczak regains half-guard, and that quickly turns into full guard. Osipczak works up his long legs for the submission, but Soto feels it and pushes them to the side. Soto advances out to side control. Osipczak covering up on the bottom, but he's eating punches and elbows from the top. Nothing massive, but points are scoring. Knee returns for Soto. Those do hurt. Osipczak rolls and gives up the back. He rolls again to escape, and Soto leaps into an arm-triangle attempt. Osipczak signals that he's fine, but Soto keeps the hold while driving knees into the ribs from a knee-on-belly position. Soto transitions into mount and releases the choke in favor of punches. Osipczak rolls again to escape the damage, and Soto takes the back. A few powerful elbows to the head score. Great round for Soto. Good case for a 10-8, but MMAjunkie.com says Soto, 10-9 in the third and also awards him the fight, 29-28. Greg Soto def. Nick Osipczak via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
DAN MILLER VS. JOHN SALTER
Round 1 - Referee Mario Yamasaki in charge of the evening's final dark match. Salter with an early crisp left. Southpaw lands with another straight left. Miller rushes in with a combination of his own. Miller works the body, and Salter just misses on the counter. Straights traded, and both guys look content to box for now. One minute in. Miller lands two punches, eats a counter and scores his own shot again. Good series. Salter holds the center and lands a left hook. Miller with a right to the body. Low kick for Miller, and Salter catches the strike and pushes in for the takedown. To minutes in. Miller with an open guard. He closes it up and works the legs very high up the back. Miller spins for the armbar, but Salter feels it and backs away. He pushes back in, and Miller tries to lock up a triangle choke, but the legs slip off. Miller puts his feet on the hips and kicks Salter away before leaping to his feet. Traded punches again, and Salter seems to be landing the better blows. Miller answers back with a straight. Miller shoots in, but Salter defends and pushes away. Salter with another takedown. Miller tries to latch in a guillotine as he falls, but Salter pulls out and takes side control. Might have secured the round in the closing seconds. MMAjunkie.com sees a close one for Salter, 10-9.
Round 2 - Miller works the jab early, but Salter there with the straight counter shots. A left catches Miller flush, and he wobbles briefly. He's not backing down though. Miller pushes forward with his jab and lands to the body. Salter countering with the left straight. Salter shoots in, but this time Miller does have the neck as he sprawls. The right arm is secure, and it's a tight anaconda choke as he grabs hold of his left arm. Miller spins on the move to torque it further, and Salter is done. Dan Miller def. NIK LENTZ VS. ANDRE WINNER
Round 1 - Referee Josh Rosenthal returns as we go live on Spike TV. Winner takes the center early. Lentz tries to shoot in on a single, but winner backs up to the cage and remains upright. Lentz finally does suck him off the cage, but Winner pops right back up. Lentz works to the back, but Winner spins into it. Winner lands a straight punch as Lentz remains attache dot the leg. Stalemate against the cage. Winner pulls away and fires off one punch before Lentz goes immediately back in. Winner again maintains his balance as Lentz spins around with a single-leg attempt. Winner sneaks in one knee strike as Lentz adjust his grip, but there's still no room. Crowd boos with 90 seconds left. Lentz continues to press in. Winner lands a few strikes from the Thai clinch, and Lentz pulls away. It's only momentarily, and he pushes right back against the cage. He ties up the legs and gets Winner to the floor, but the Brit pops back up. Lentz lands a straight, but Winner answers back with a nice left hand. Lentz sticks to him as the round ends. Little to differentiate the two, and MMAjunkie.com sees a 10-10 frame.
Round 2 - Winner tries to jab. Lentz rushes in again. Winner creates room, but Lentz just pushes in again. He's definitely not breaking from his strategy. It's probably smart, but it sure isn't exciting. One minute in. A few knees are traded inside. Winner spins off the cage, but he's quickly back against it. Lentz digs underneath and elevates Winner with a high crotch, but he can't get it to the floor. Winner pulls away. Two strikes are thrown before Lentz is re-attached to the left leg. He does suck Winner to the floor, but he's right back up before anything is done. Winner pushes down on the head and tries to step over Lentz, but he can't pull his leg free. Scramble, and Lentz winds up the back, but Winner returns to the feet. Restless crowd, and it's for good reason. Lentz ducks under Winner and elevates him behind the head. He drops Winner in a near spike, though the Brit turns his head so as not to take the damage. Round ends to boos, and there really wasn't much there to score. MMAjunkie.com gives a reluctant 10-9 to Lentz, though a 10-10 wouldn't be unrealistic.
Round 3 - Winner gets a little room to fire off kicks, but Lentz doesn't stay in that range for long. Lentz pushes back into the legs. Winner hits the floor for a moment but pops right back up. Winner tries to work free, though Lentz grips the back. Two minutes in, and Lentz does get Winner to the floor. As Winner works back to his feet, Lentz takes the back. Winner tries to escape, but he hits the floor, and Lentz is still on his back. Halfway in. Winner spins into his opponent, and Lentz takes half-mount. Winner spins again, and Lentz gets his hooks in on the back. Winner turns again, but Lentz winds up in mount. He throws a few really soft punches from the top. Winner rolls to his knees. Lentz throws a few elbows to the body. They're not damaging at all. Less than a minute, and the boos really coming down now. Winner tries to work to his feet and Lentz works in a choke. He holds it briefly after the bell, and MMAjunkie.com awards Lentz the round, 10-9, and the fight, 30-28 in one of the least eventful fights in recent memory. Nik Lentz def. JOE LAUZON VS.Gabe Ruediger
Round 1 - Referee Herb Dean in the cage for the first time tonight. Ruediger booed mercilessly as he's introduced. The hometown Lauzon receives the biggest welcome of the night so far. Ruediger circles to his right early. Lauzon gets the best of an early striking exchange. Takedown for Lauzon, and he moves almost immediately to the back. Ruediger defends the choke well, but Lauzon still all over him. Ruediger tries to secures a left, but Lauzon works out and delivers a big punch from the top. Several elbows, score, and Lauzon goes to side control. Ruediger rolls, and Lauzon nails him with big punches from the back. Lauzon picks up Ruediger and slams him to the floor. Lauzon is a man possessed. Crowd is going insane. Lauzon slide out to the side on an armbar attempt, and it is deep. Ruediger is trapped, and he's forced to tap. MARCUS DAVIS VS. NATE DIAZ
Round 1 - Referee Yves Lavigne in charge of the evening's first pay-per-view contest. Southpaw stance by both, and Diaz jabs and waves Davis in. Davis catches him, then comes up short. Diaz taunts, and Davis clips him. Diaz looks like he may be in trouble briefly as he's on the floor with Davis punching. Diaz pops up and taunts him again. Davis ducks under and works the body. Chants of "Diaz sucks" fill the building. Diaz staying busy, but Davis there to answer in the pocket. Davis' right eye bloodied, but he lands a nice left. Davis also bleeding on the right side of his head. Halfway in. Diaz scoring with the long arms, and a knee lands up the middle. Into a clinch, and Diaz pushes Davis against the fence. He squirms free and resets. Diaz looks more comfortable with the pace and range now, and he's scoring with straights. Clinch again, but they back away and trade. Looping shots by both, and it's pretty even on the feet now. One minute. Diaz scores with right hands from range. A high kick lands. Davis' blood really flowing now. Diaz lands the pawing 1-2, but Davis answers. Diaz starting to do his thing with the volume punching. Good first round, and MMAjunkie.com sees it for Diaz, 10-9, in a good round.
Round 2 - Long look at the cut from the doc, but Davis cleared to go. Diaz really comfortable now. He's using the length and scoring. Davis all heart and looking to answer. Diaz shoots in on a single-leg and pushes Davis to the fence. Davis actually scores with a knee, and they reset. Davis leaps with a left that scores. Diaz really staying active, and an uppercut scores. Davis trying to keep away with good head movement, but Diaz just peppering away. Right hand lands for Diaz as Davis stumbles off-balance. Diaz with a jab. Diaz's face marked up, too. Davis lands a stiff left and pushes in, but he pulls away quickly. Diaz really has the distance now. Diaz works the body a bit. Those trademarked Diaz shots landing. Stiff left for Diaz. Jab, too. Davis in the pocket, and he's game to trade, but the punches are adding up. Davis kicks the leg, and Diaz waves him in. Eye getting really bad for Davis, and this might be the last round he gets to work. Lavigne lets him fight it, though. Diaz into the clinch, and he tries to work a late trip. Davis remains standing and gets his own trip in a scramble, but MMAjunkie.com gives Diaz the round, 10-9.
Round 3 - Doctor says we're OK to go. Diaz takes the center. Three-punch combo for Diaz. Crowd cheering on Davis, but he's having trouble with the length. Diaz ducks under a Davis combo but moves away. Brief exchange, and Davis moves into the clinch. Davis defends against the cage as Diaz lands a few short lefts. They break away. Davis fires a crisp left. He's still pushing, but Diaz continues to get the best of the exchanges. Left hand for Diaz, though Davis answers in kind. Diaz rattling off combinations. Right hand scores, and Davis grabs his eye briefly. Lavigne didn't see anything, and we move on. Davis' right eye is badly swollen and bruised, though the bleeding has stopped. Diaz drags Davis to the ground and tries to attack from the top. Diaz shifts out, locks in a guillotine choke and rolls out to the side. Davis is trapped. Diaz squeezes, and Davis appears to be out. Lavigne checks the arm. A little response from Davis, but it looked more like a reflex than action. Lavigne lets it go a little longer before finally saving the napping Davis. Nate Diaz def.
