• Anderson Silva’s team still interested in a go at Georges St-Pierre

Little has been heard from Anderson Silva’s camp since the middleweight champion stopped Chael Sonnen with strikes atUFC 148 to retain the title he’s held for more than five years. Instead of addressing his future or calling potential adversaries out, Silva has remained a recluse and allowed the contendership picture to slowly sort itself out.

With Alan Belcher, Vitor Belfort, Hector Lombard, Michael Bisping, and other options now off the table the only suitable opponents seemingly left for Silva are Tim Boetsch and Chris Weidman.

However, neither carries much mainstream weight and the 37-year old Silva only seems interested in significant scraps.

On that note, Silva’s manager – Jorge Guimaraes – recently spoke about the situation in an interview with TATAME where he made it clear his client isn’t jumping at the chance to face a relative unknown and instead brought up an idea that hasn’t been tossed around in a few years.

“No opponent makes sense for Anderson at this moment…unless we do a catchweight againstGeorges St-Pierre. They didn’t offer the fight, but he’s the only one that could do a super fight,” said Guimaraes of Silva going at it with GSP.

“Anderson has the biggest paycheck in the UFC, and you can’t promote an event with these amateur kids that are coming up now”.

St-Pierre, the UFC’s welterweight title-holder, is currently in the process of recovering from knee surgery sidelining him since mid-2011.

He is expected to face Carlos Condit in November to unify his belt with Condit’s interim strap. There are also a handful of worthy challengers ready to go who have been forced to wait for an opportunity to open up while St-Pierre has been out.

As such, it seems somewhat unlikely a much-anticipated meeting between GSP-Silva will take place but, if nothing else, at least seems “The Spider” hasn’t forgotten about cementing his status as the greatest fighter MMA has ever seen.

      My thoughts exactly.

A point on the situation here, if Anderson intends waiting on GSP, that could be sometime in the middle of 2013 before that fight happens and it's also being talked as being catchweight too, if this is all going to happen.....then do the UFC strip him of his MW belt because it could be late 2013 or even 2014 before he fights at MW again????

If either fight happens the other is likely to be less attractive unless Silva wins. Per say Jones or GSP beats Silva, I don't think people would care about watching the other potential fight left. And obviously GPS and Jones won't be fighting each other.

Some have been waiting since 2006 to Silva lose a fight and still bash him, if he actually loss one. It would be insane.

Those people who would bash him would be ignorant. I personally, as a fan of MMA, want to see the best fight the best if their weights permit it. Silva fighting and dominating the Cote's of the world is not impressive to me. Silva fighting a Jones or GSP (other top P4P guys) IS impressive to me win, lose, or draw.

      That's respectable.

I don't care about height difference or anything, i just want this fight to happen! but i think Silva should fight someone while waiting for gsp to clear the WW log jam, if GSP beats Condit then i think this fight could be a reality in may next year maybe, that gives GSP time to fight Condit after his recovery and gives Silva a chance to fight one more contender.
      My idea:
Boetsch vs Weidman for No.1 Contender (September)
      GSP vs Condit (Nowember)
Silva Vs winner of No.1 Fight (January/ New Years event)
Then hopefully they can have this fight, but then again there will still be a load of MW calling for a shot and there is the winner of Kampmann vs Hendricks

My thinking is if(when) Rory MacDonald beats BJ then GSP might move up anway, he really doesn't want to fight him!

Many years talking about this fight.., I'd like to see it happen.

I'd also like to see Silva Vs Jones, but they're in love.. so.

Boetsch broke his foot in the fight against Lombard.....I don't think he can be ready much before December.

So Poison Dwarf couldn't beat Tim with a broken foot? This guy is doomed to dominate the division till we cry for him to move and beat Jones.

I think Aaron got 1 thing spot on though, Rory and GSP will never fight and I think GSP will move up to MW as a result very soon, maybe even after the Condit fight.

I doubt GSP will move before fighting Diaz. He wanted that fight bad.

That's an issue, cause Diaz wants Silva.
