TUF 10's Nelson dishes on Episode 2
For Season 10 of The Ultimate Fighter (check out our recaps and meet the cast), Fighting Stances will chat about each episode with cast member Roy Nelson, the most accomplished competitor among the latest crop of TUF participants. As the only heavyweight titleholder crowned by the International Fight League before its demise, Nelson entered this TUF season as one of the heavy favorites.
His observations for Week 2:
We talked a little bit last week about the rant they directed at you. You said you would listen to coaches if they make sense, but not if they were saying something stupid. How much sense did they make this time?
Actually, the whole TV magic, they cut it pretty good. They didn't actually show how it ended being the coaches getting an attitude adjustment, because basically the roles got switched real fast.
FOLLOW ALONG: Tracking TUF's 10th season
When they were talking about me "uncoachable" and my own self-coach, stuff like that, I just ranted on how they already have teammates (James McSweeney and Brendan Schaub) that they already work with (at Greg Jackson's Mixed Martial Arts in New Mexico), and they're going to coach us all identically the same? And I called shenanigans and basically (baloney).
And they were like, "No, we're going to coach you the same."
So I go, pardon my French, "You guys are some (messed) up friends, because I'd want my friends to do better than anybody else on the show."
They're like, "No, we're going to coach you guys the same." I'm like, "Well, (baloney). And you guys are some (messed) up friends. I wouldn't you to be my friend or my coach, if that's the case."
Then they start changing around, and we all got our verbal agreement that we're all going to listen to each other and stuff like that. And that's how they cut it. (laughs)
