Strikeforce will be keeping its women's 145-pound champion, after all, if an online report is correct.
Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos has signed a new deal with the promotion whose title belt she holds, manager Rudimar Fedrigo told Full Contact Fighter on Thursday.
Santos officially became a free agent last month when Strikeforce's exclusive negotiation period expired, according to reports (http://www.cagepotato.com/exclusive-strikeforce-womens-middleweight-champ-cris-cyborg-is-officially-a-free-agent-and-is-close-to-coming-to-terms-with-a-new-promotion/), but she remains the titleholder for Strikeforce's 145-pound women's division.
She hasn't fought since crushing Jan Finney in June of last year. That fight fulfilled the number of bouts on her Strikeforce contract, but a champion's clause prevented her from negotiating with anyone else for a year.
Fedrigo did not disclose details of the new deal. For the Finney bout, Santos received a base purse of $15,000, plus a $15,000 win bonus and $5,000 champion's bonus.
Santos has been in the main event or co-main event for two of Strikeforce's six most-watched events on Showtime. But finding opponents for her has been difficult because of a shallow pool of talent at 145 pounds.
