It was February 2009 and I was visiting my cousin in Sydney,Australia. One of the nights we didn't have anything planned he shouted me from another room and said his buddy had 2 tickets to CFC 7. I thought yeah we could go watch that and was wondering who was on the card that I might have heard of...just about nobody.
We got sat in our seats, some fights passed and then this short, stocky, serious looking guy starts walking out and I was like "Who the fuck is that!?". My cousin responds "Oh that's Hector Lombard!" I thought to myself he looks kinda serious, lets see what he can do.
Lombard was matched against Ron Veradero, an American who had travelled across to fight him and probably had high hopes of putting a beating on 'Shango'. The next 20 seconds of my life wouldn't be the same after what I witnessed. The bout began with about 5 seconds of feeling out when Lombard shot in, grabbed both of Veradero's legs and proceeded to pick him up and slam him on his head and finish him off with some hammer fists. I have never seen a slam like it apart from the Randleman on Fedor or Rampage on Arona...I was eager to find out more about this little tank!!
Since that night I have watched many a Lombard fight, he has decimated every single person that AFC, CFC and Bellator have put in front of him. He's gone through opponents like a hot knife through butter, such as Falaniko Vitale, Joe Doerksen, Alexander Shlemenko, Herbert Goodman, Jay Silva, Kalib Starnes and Jared Hess. These opponents are no pushovers but they aren't exactly the upper echelon of the Middeweight division. I for one would pay good money for Lombard to relinquish his Bellator Middleweight title and make the jump to the UFC and take on the worlds elite.
We're talking about a guy that has lost only 2 fights in his career, which were 2 unanimous decisions to Gegard Mousasi (Top 5 LHW) and Akihiro Gono (Past top 5 WW). Since then he's gone on such a run that he seems unstoppable, 22 wins and 1 no contest is no joke.
But come on....who else wants to see him fight the best guys in the world!?
Let me know who you would like to see him fight and why!!!
