(Don't worry, Gina. We won't let Cyborg on the set.)

It appears that Cris Cyborg may have taken more than just Gina Carano's Strikeforce belt when she beat the woman many consider to be the most popular female mixed martial arts fighter of all time last August.

She may have taken her will to fight as well.

360 days have passed since her last bout and while the MMA community holds its collective breath waiting for an update on when (or if) Carano will fight again, her former trainer, coach and cornerman Randy Couture isn't convinced she'll ever compete again.

In a Q&A session ahead of UFC 117 last weekend, Couture had this to say when asked about Gina's fighting future:

"Gina just did a movie that's going to be coming out soon. I haven't seen her in the gym, haven't talked to her in nine months," Couture revealed. "I'm not sure where she's at. I know the movie is going to be very big for her and I'd be very surprised to see her back in the cage."

The movie he's referring to is Steven Soderbergh's Haywire, which is basically a revamped version of The Bourne Identity with a female lead. Set for theatrical release in January 2011, Haywire also stars Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Michael Fassbender, Bill Paxton and Antonio Banderas.

Wow, big names and I'm guessing she's somehow the lead???? IF this makes it big I wouldn't blame her for leaving. Plus, there are more cameras taking pictures of movie stars than fighters, no???? ;)

she could be the first mma fighter gone actor/actress who is actually decent, as long as she is willing to take her clothes off!

I'll wait to judge her until I see her movie.

If she is awful and/or the movie sucks, it wouldn't be smart to have burned down the bridges from her MMA career.

I'd quit fighting to if I could make a lot more money making movies.

However, she doesn't belong in any star role. Since when is she some accomplished actress?

I know, but it's still pretty shitty for the real actors out there that deserve those types of roles. This is the exact kind of thing that makes me not watch any movies at the theaters or put any money into Hollywood. It's a joke.

Her getting a star role in a big film is no different than if Leonardo Dicaprio or David Beckam started training in Mui Thai for 3 months and then Dana White gave him a 3 fight contract and put him on the main cards. How would you feel about that?

I love me some Carano just like the next guy and wish her a lot of luck, but she belongs in a Maxim Spread, Playboy, or on AMerican Gladiators.

Tex, I don't mean to target you all over the boards LMAO, but here's the thing. Think of guys like Jackie Chan who can't even speak coherent english getting roles alongside actors who actually can act. That's what Gina is in this role, only she can speak english. She's, more or less, legitimate talent for the action scenes they needed in this film. And there is NO ONE better than her imho for fight choreography than her in hollywood among women. After Rampage, I've been giving fighters more credit for acting and acting ablilty. We haven't even seen her yet, I'll wait to make my judgement then ;)

These fighters aren't actors. They're fighters. I don't want to see them reading lines and making even more of a mockery in the film industry.

Maybe if you had worked in this industry you would understand. I've worked on quite a few independent films, acted in a lot of plays in college and out here locally, and have acted in some small independent films as well. It's a very tough business for people to bear into and people from all over the country that do this their entire lives are forced to get up and move to Los Angeles or NY to persue these careers that they've worked really hard for. Do you know how much it costs to live in LA or NY? Even if you have money when you go, you can go broke really fast if you're not making a lot of money out there. These people are working very tough jobs out there to persue a career they couldn't persue in their own cities and there are some very highly talented people out there that deserve these roles and these jobs. I was very close to going out to LA in my early twenties, and thank god I didn't. That industry has became a complete dump from what it was just 10 years ago. I have buddies that are very talented that are out there right now still busting their asses waiting on tables for tips because there's nothing but reality shows everywhere and movies everywhere that are hiring random people like Gina Carano, Rampage, or some guy like Tyrese.

Like I said this is no different than if Leonardo Dicaprio or Zack Efron were awarded UFC contracts just because they said they started training and wanted to become MMA fighters. More power to them if they can make it happen, but I'd criticize Dana White for that just like I did when he signed Toney.

I want to see the best of the best perform for entertainment whether it's movies, golf, football, or MMA, and etc. I don't want to see side show stuff like this takes away from the quality.

Yes I like the straight to DVD movies way more than the ones that hit the theaters now days. By far I do. It's just hard to know which ones are really good since they don't get promoted as much. Been dabbling more into some Independent foreighn films lately.

Lately I've been watching a lot of old classic Westerns and have been enjoying them a lot.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect a lot of people to see my viewpoint unless they've actually done some work in this industry and seen how hard it is even if you are great at what you do. People don't realize how hard it is just for a film maker to make a short film or any film and how much money it takes and all of the locations and release forms you need just to get a distribution deal if you do end up making a film. it's just a lot of time and effort and money involved, and I miss the old days of being excited to see great films all year long.

You know who really is having a hard time right now are the writers in Hollywood with so many reality shows everywhere now. It's a lot less work out there for them and the big Production companies are probably paying a lot less than what they used to because they don't need writers near as much.

However, she doesn't belong in any star role. Since when is she some accomplished actress?

This is Steven Soderbergh we're talking about. Amazing director and screenwriter, but just recently hired Sasha Grey the porn actress to star in one of his films The Girlfriend Experience - and it actually did critically well, and now Sasha is guest starring in Entourage and while she's still doing porn, she'll most likely get more legit roles down the road. He knows what he's doing when it comes to this kind of stuff, I wouldn't doubt it if he turns Carano into a star.

BTW, I understand all your view points because my father was 'in the industry'* and I've hung around it enough to know a thing or two. But you and I both know the majority of mainstream movies are shitfests that actually make money, and the sheep who buy it will continue to fund the terrible acting. writing, and direction for some time.

*My dad is an ADR director and has dabbled in the anime industry aswell as music, movies and television shows. He's done ADR for many films to come out of the wilmington, NC area, did ADR for dawsons creek for about two seasons. I'm not an anime fan (even though I've been in a few of his) but I've heard his english dubs are some of the more respectable ones out there seeing as how fanboys hate dubs. Here is a list of projects he's been involved with: (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/feature/2004-03-30)

Personalities: Anthony Hopkins / Jim Carrey / Dennis Hopper / Matthew Broderick / Katie Holmes - all "Dawson" cast / Sara Michelle Gellar / Andy Griffith/ Clair Danes / Rene Auberjonois / Michael McKean / Annabeth Gish / Pat Hingle / Edward Herrman / Melissa Gilbert / Judith Light / Dean Stockwell / Tim Matheson / Matthew Modine / Sean Patrick Flannery / Jerry O'Connell / etc.....

Anime Dubbing Productions:
Rupan III - Fuma Conspiracy / BAOH / Spirit of Wonder / You're Under Arrest OAV / Oh My Goddess! / Crusher Joe / Earthian / Shinesman / KITE / Elf Princess Rane / Sailor Victory / Voogie's Angel / Princess Rouge / Blue Submarine No. 6 / Virtua Fighter TV series (25 eps.) / You're Under Arrest TV series (48 eps.) / You're Under Arrest! Specials (20 eps.) / You're Under Arrest! - The Movie

He indeed had Matthew Broderick come in for the Lion King and all of his ADR was done instudio here in Wilmington. :) Needless to say we've met ALOT of big named actors over the years, he has a wall-sized collection of photos with all of them. Out of all the celebs he's worked with, the nicest guy was Jim Carrey. Most of the actors had an asshole complex and felt they were bigger and better than everyone around them, but Carrey was the most down to earth guy ever. Whenever they took a break and everyone went outside to have a cigarette, Carrey (who doesn't smoke and was the only person remaining in the studio) snuck his head out the door and politely asked "can I come out here with you guys? its lonely in there" Dude was awesome.

I completely agree ........ Steven is turned Sasha into a future star, he is going to do the same with Gina. Carano already had Star Status written all over her. She'll do fine without MMA....in a way i fell Goina will become the new version of Dwayne The Rock Johnson, but instead of WWE to TV its MMA to TV.

...and the statement that John made about "name" actors is correct.

They're mostly pompous narcissistic assholes.

I've met my share of actors as well, I was in the film industry in South Florida for several years and I too met Jim Carrey on the set of "Ace Ventura"... and I agree with John that Jim Carrey by far is the most genuine / down-to-Earth actor that I've ever met.

On a movie titled "Traces of Red" I doubled and was stand-in for Tony Goldwyn who had nowhere near the attitude of the other "stars" on the set.

Jim Belushi the co-star of the movie was a complete ass, I stood side by side to him and it was two weeks before he even acknowledged my presence... after two weeks of shadowing him and Tony he finally uttered his first words to me and greeted me with a good morning.

He even had one of the production assistants removed from the set because he; "didn't like the sound of her voice" when she called-out "rolling" when the cameras started.

He kept screaming-out in a totally perturbed manner; "What's that sound, what's that sound !?"

Nobody could figure-out what the hell he was talking about until she called-out "rolling" again and then he had her removed from the set.

Lorraine Bracco was another one of those pompous narcissistic actors... I remember when we were in Palm Beach filming one of the scenes where she was in a bathing-suit, there was concern as to how to hide the massive cellulite on her legs and her fat ass, while she strutted around like a diva.

In the final scene that we filmed on the boardwalk on the beach, filming for the day had to be suspended for the day because the wind was exposing Jim Belushi's bald-spot. [shakes head]

Yeah they were/are usually filmed here in Wilmington, Dawson's Creek was filmed downtown and around local bars and UNCW for it's high school. Ever seen "East Bound and Down", an HBO mini series comedy with Danny McBride as a washed up baseball player who decides to be a gym teacher? It was filmed at my high school, didn't even realize it until halfway through the first episode and I thought "Man that gym and baseball field look awfully familiar..."

Will Ferrell even came down here and filmed at the Schafer BMW as Ashley Schafer  He was fucking hilarious, almost a Ric Flair-esque performance.

Yeah, I heard The Other Guys is great, I need to see that one. It's even getting good reviews from the critics, which is rare for a ferrell movie. I love all his movies but they're not exactly 4 star epics :p My friends and I still use quotes from Anchorman and Talladega Nights. "I'm kind of a big deal" "I'm in a glass cage of emotion!" "The bad man punted Baxter!" "You pooped in the refrigerator? And ate a whole wheel of cheese? I'm not even mad, I'm impressed." "I may be 10 years old but I'll beat your ass." "And the always delicious Taco Bell"
